Serving in Detroit is part of Fort Street’s long-standing commitment to care for the physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being of our neighbors. Through hands-on outreach, partnerships, and consistent presence, we practice faith by meeting real needs and standing alongside those most often overlooked in our city.

Open Door Ministries

Fort Street’s Open Door Ministry continues a legacy of care that began decades ago and remains central to our mission today. Since 1969, this ministry has provided food, medical care, clothing, and compassion to hundreds of people each week.

How to Serve

  • Pack grab-and-go bags of high-protein, high-calorie food
  • Distribute supplies to unhoused neighbors throughout the week
  • Support partner organizations working on the ground in Detroit

The Open Door ministry gathers on the fourth Sunday of each month to prepare food bags for distribution.
