Get Married at Fort Street
A historic wedding venue with soaring vaulted ceilings in downtown Detroit

If you are dreaming of a wedding that feels timeless, breathtaking, and unforgettable, Fort Street Presbyterian Church offers one of Detroit’s most dramatic and historic wedding settings.

Built in 1855, Fort Street’s Gothic Revival sanctuary features massive vaulted ceilings, a soaring hammer-beam roof, and a sense of scale that transforms a wedding ceremony into something truly epic. This is a space designed to hold awe, music, and meaning.

A Grand Historic Setting

From the moment you step inside, Fort Street feels different. The sanctuary seats more than 700 guests beneath a vast, cathedral-like ceiling, creating a ceremony space that feels cinematic, reverent, and powerful.

  • Towering Gothic architecture
  • Dramatic stonework and historic details
  • Exceptional acoustics for music and vows
  • A rare sense of scale found in few wedding venues

Whether your vision is classic, formal, modern, or romantic, Fort Street provides a stunning backdrop that elevates every moment.

Designed for Memorable Moments

Fort Street offers more than a beautiful sanctuary. The building includes a collection of historic and functional spaces that support the full wedding experience.

Wedding highlights include:

  • A grand sanctuary for the ceremony
  • The McMillan Room, a historic bridal suite ideal for preparation and photography
  • Kingins Hall, perfect for gathering guests, hosting a luncheon, or staging wedding party moments
  • Separate preparation rooms for the couple and wedding party

The building’s architectural details, natural light, and historic textures make it a favorite for wedding photography.

Parking & Guest Experience

Fort Street has a private parking lot with space for approximately 40 vehicles, with staff serving as parking attendants on wedding days. Guests are guided smoothly into the building, ensuring a welcoming and well-organized experience from arrival to departure. Additional parking options can be arranged for larger weddings and street parking is also available near the church.

A Wedding with Meaning

While Fort Street is a visually stunning venue, weddings here are also deeply meaningful. Ceremonies are rooted in Christian worship and guided by experienced clergy who help couples prepare thoughtfully for marriage.

  • Weddings are open to members and non-members
  • Premarital counseling with a Fort Street pastor is required
  • At least one Fort Street minister participates in every ceremony
  • Guest officiants may participate in collaboration with Fort Street clergy

This approach ensures that your wedding is not only beautiful, but intentional and grounded.

Planning & Coordination

All weddings at Fort Street are overseen by the church’s Wedding Coordinator, Loretta Stanton, who brings decades of experience coordinating ceremonies in this unique space.

Loretta manages all details related to the ceremony and use of the building, ensuring that everything flows smoothly and respectfully. Outside wedding planners are welcome to assist with celebrations that take place beyond the church.
