From the Pastor's Desk . . . Easter Sunday March 23, 2008
What does one say about Easter? I should find a great quotation -- or think of something especially profound to say. After all, I have all those years of dignified schooling, degrees, & credentials! There's bound to be some obscure, thick, and ancient theological tome from which I could pull something whose words none of us could pronounce or understand.
OR -- We could come together Sunday morning in celebration! After all, I'm sure the women and the disciples that morning weren't thinking in 50-cent words with Latin roots! There were moments of uncertainty, fear, anger -- and then the dawning of faith and joy.
Philip C. Olson, D.Min. Interim Pastor
Raise the Roof Campaign Kicks Off!
To kick off the campaing we've arranged some small gatherings, similar to our old advent parties. Various members are opening their homes and offering refreshments for these meetings, which will all occur between March 26 and April 2. The\ meetings will be informative, fun, and pretty low impact on your time.
Church Offices Closed The Church offices will be closed on Monday, March 24 to observe Easter. The offices will resume its normal schedule on Tuesday, March 25 from 8:30-4:30 p.m.
Click the text above for the first in a Continuing Series of “Let’s Raise the Roof!” Reflections by Josiah Tazelaar. “Let’s Raise the Roof!” is the 2008 Capital Funds Campaign of Fort Street Presbyterian. For more information, contact Motoko Huthwaite or Jack Callas, Campaign Co-chairs.
The Church Officer Nominating Committee is meeting soon to nominate Deacons, Elders, and future nominating committee members. Church Members are requested to offer suggestions for members to these positions. These nominations will eventually be brought to the congregation for vote. We would like to have any potential nominees be considered during our deliberations so we can ensure a representative and capable group to serve our church. Give any suggestions to the committee members directly if possible. The Church Officer Nominating Committee Members are: Nancy Combs, Rob Jackson, Jean Ledermann, Donald Lorimer, Kevin Pearson, Suellen Sale, and Sabrinia Smith. We thank you for your help.
Fort Street’s Mission Committee hosts groups during March. Even as winter winds down into rainy spring many people will find a warm place to stay at Fort Street during the month of March.
……So Fortstreeters invite them in! Please welcome them, ask them to tell you their stories and share your Fort Street experience with them.
New Hearing Assist System - The Deacons have purchased a Hearing Assist System for use in the sanctuary. If this system would benefit you, please see Tom Mulford or one of the ushers to borrow a receiver and headset during the service. If you are aware of someone who is not attending church because they cannot hear the service, please let them know we have this new capability and encourage them to come and try it out.
2008 Offering Envelopes Offering envelopes are now available, please picked them up on the table that’s located in the narthex.

Flags Many of the world’s countries flags are represented in our sanctuary, but not all! If you would like to purchase a flag to contribute and make our collection more complete, please contact Nancy Jackson. Assistance for the Hearing Impaired The Deacons have approved the acquisition of a new system to assist those who are hearing impaired. The system will use the same audio signal that is being recorded during the service and transmit via radio waves into the sanctuary. This signal can be picked up by a small receiver fitted with a head-set or hear-bud. Some modern hearing aids can receive the signal with the aid of a small antenna. The church will purchase a system that will include four receivers that can be borrowed during the service. It is realized that some may prefer to have their own personal receiver and/or ear piece or may have a hearing aid that can accommodate the system. The cost of a personal unit is approximately $70. If you are interested in such a purchase, please contact Pam Sharrow or John Neuman. You will be contacted prior to our purchase to work out specific options so we can purchase all equipment on one order to ensure compatibility. Need Blankets The weather is now changing and the Deacons Closet need blankets and warm clothing for their guests.
