From a modest beginning in 1971, with a handful of dedicated volunteers singing occasionally in Sunday services, the Fort Street Chorale has grown into a cohesive, well-organized, musically proficient, 90-plus- member, nonprofessional group, which has received widespread acclaim. The Chorale participates regularly in worship services at Fort Street Presbyterian Church and presents major choral works in public concert. Since 1979, the Chorale has performed Handel's Messiah annually to large audiences. The Fort Street Chorale was featured in the award-winning documentary, "Miracle on Fort Street," shown on public television in 1984 and rebroadcast many times since. The Chorale is a non-profit organization which supports itself mostly through ticket sales – and all amounts paid over $12 per ticket are tax-deductible. Also, non-singing volunteers always are welcome to lend their support to this fine organization. |
