Mission: Here and Around the World
What’s been happening? In October we welcomed Rev. Cody Watson from Presbyterian Frontier Fellowship. He preached at the worship service, spoke to the Adult Education class and ate lunch with the Senior High students. Fort Streeters learned how this portion of PCUSA mission attempts to minister to “Unreached Peoples” around the world. This fall we have also welcomed Campus Ministry groups from Western Michigan University and the University of Michigan. The groups used our church over the weekend for sleeping and eating while working at various missions in the city. On Halloween this year we took a delicious pasta dinner and treat bags to Trinity Community Presbyterian Church during the week that they hosted the Cass Community Rotating Shelter.
What’s coming up? This summer Hope College sophomore, Laura Jackson, will attend a 6 week summer service project in Guatemala with the New Wilminton Mission Conference team of young adults. The mission committee is happy to be able to contribute to this mission effort and encourages Fort Street members to attend the conference July 21-27, 2007 to hear all about her trip. For more information check out the website: New Wilminton Mission Conference Information
The Presbytery of Detroit, Hands on Mission Work Group announces mission opportunities. Attend the MISSION TRAINING AND OPPORTUNITY FAIR, Saturday, February 10, 2007, 9:00a.m. to Noon at First Presbyterian Church in Farmington Hills. Join the KATRINA RELEIF TRIP, March 10-17, 2007. The cost of this trip to Pearlington, Mississippi is $225 per person. Call Rev. Karen Carl at 734-717-4587 or email her for information on either of these events.
In March we will host the INN University Ministries from Western Washington University. They had such a good experience staying with us 2 years ago that they called us immediately when they decided to schedule an alternative spring break mission trip to Detroit in 2007. We look forward to hosting this music and mission loving group March 23-30, 2007. |
