New Elders
Term Ending 2009

Muench

Shirley Muench and her husband began attending Fort Street Church in the early '90s, and she became a member in 1995. Shirley said she has always felt welcome here at Fort Street, and she and her husband pledged their support to the wide ministry and outreach of the Church. Shirley has served as a Deacon and, since her husband was an ordained Presbyterian minister, she served several parishes as a minister's wife. Shirley looks forward to the opportunity of serving as an Elder on the Session of Fort Street Presbyterian Church.

Terms Ending 2010

Boyce

Ruth Boyce has been a member of Fort Street Church for about 30 years, except for seven years when she and her husband Don lived in northern Michigan, after retirement. They returned to southeastern Michigan and to Fort Street in 2002 when Don was losing his battle against lung cancer because, Ruth said, Fort Street and the people here felt like a sanctuary for them. Ruth has served several terms on Session and has chaired the Member Care Committee, Peace and Justice Committee, Open Door Committee, and Nominating Committee. She also has served as a member of the Personnel Committee, Finance Committee and others. She also holds the Chorale close to her heart.

Lederman

Jeannie Ledermann indicates that Fort Street Church has been a special part of her life, since she was a child. She was married here and raised her two children, Katie and Eddie, here. She has been active in various Church activities and committees. For the past ten years, she has been very active on the Mission Committee because, she says, she finds fulfillment from Fort Street's outreach to help people.

Richard Turner has been a member of FSPC since 1992, shortly after moving to Detroit from Nashville, TN. He has served FSPC as an Elder on Session, Chair of the Personnel Committee, Publicity Coordinator for the Great Hall Series, lay reader, member of the Nominating Committee, member of several search committees, and as substitute organist. He also has served the Presbytery of Detroit. His late first wife, Dolores Walker Turner, also served on Session here at FSPC. He married Doris Greenlee Taylor in the Stapleton Chapel in March 1998. Richard has two children, Michael and Edris (Tucker), five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Uduma

Kalu Uduma and his wife, Jessie, have traveled far from their home town in Nigeria. Dr. Virgil Jones introduced Kalu to Fort Street, and he became a member in 2000. Both of his children, Emeka and Ozi, attend Fort Street as well. Kalu is a senior technical specialist engineer with the DaimlerChyrsler Corporation. Kalu says he loves Fort Street Presbyterian Church and considers it an extension of his family.

Mark has a great passion for Fort Street Church and believes that Fort Street is a very rare church that has a lot to offer to people who have not felt at home or comfortable in other churches. He looks forward to the opportunity to serve our congregation.

Valerie Edward is a native Detroiter.  She began attending Fort Street Presbyterian Church after being introduced to the Church by her sister.  In 1991, she moved her membership from Park United Presbyterian Church to Fort Street Church, by letter of transfer.  Her career has been in stationary engineering operation and, presently, she is employed by the City of Detroit in the position of Refrigeration Equipment Operator (REO).
