The Reverend Dr. Sharon L. Mook is especially
well-suited for her new role as Pastor and Head of Staff of Fort
Street Presbyterian Church. She and her family moved to the Greater
Detroit Area from Metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia, where she served,
most recently, as an assistant professor of Pastoral Theology
and Care at Columbia Theological Seminary, a seminary of the Presbyterian
Church (USA), located in Atlanta. She is a graduate of Slippery
Rock University and Princeton Theological Seminary. Her earned
doctoral degrees are from Southern Methodist University (Doctor
of Ministry in Theology) and Luther Seminary (Doctor of Philosophy
in Pastoral Theology and Ministry). She has served as a chaplain
with American youth in Germany, associate pastor in a large church,
and as pastoral counselor. She is an experienced leader and speaker
at presbytery, synod and denominational events and was a presenter
for both the Multicultural Conference and the Presbyterian Communicators'
Network, during the Big Tent Conference in Atlanta, June 11-13,
2009. Program notes from that conference indicate that "Dr.
Mook knows that effective communication in the midst of diversity
requires understanding the different cultural meanings of words.
However, she learned early in her ministry in inner-city Pittsburgh
that communication involves much more than words; the message
one is trying to convey verbally can be seriously misconstrued
when nonverbal communication is incongruous."
Sharon
Mook is married to David Crawford, an attorney, and they have
a teenage daughter, Cameron Crawford-Mook.
