Judith
Sheldon
is a Michigan native, and has lived in downtown Detroit for three
decades. She grew up in a rural area, north of Detroit, where she
was both physically active and imaginative, moving through tree climbing
to ballet and, from making paper dolls, to art. This early immersion
in form, pattern and sequence – space and time – was consistent,
through both dance and visual art, and continued to offer structure
for art exploration as well as an understanding of our world.
Judith focused on dance at the University of Michigan and on the "interior
knowing" of children at the Center for Humanistic Studies. She
says, "Art and art education are spirit-filled processes that
steep us in the mystery and joy of original creation. Art is a perfect
portal for children to enter the Kingdom of God. I am delighted to
be at Fort Street Presbyterian Church, as witness and support to the
ongoing development of spirituality in our children."
